Tips for Flying with a 6 month old?

Tips for Flying with a 6 month old?
I have booked my flight and hotel to Sweden so there is no turning back! ![]()
I’m wondering what suggestions people may have for me as I am traveling with my 6 month old.
I am traveling with him on my lap (which I may be told is the worst idea ever but I’m not paying an additional 800 dollars for a baby!).
I’m flying continental.
My main question is what to do about car seat/stroller. Do I check them or bring them as carry on? I only have a travel system stroller (that goes with my car seat). I’m assuming “small collapsible stroller” is not referring to this kind of stroller. I think I’ve got my other ducks in a row…just a little unsure of what to do about the carseat and stroller. I really don’t want to have to buy a new stroller just for this trip.

When I travelled with my son he was 3 months old. I didn’t want to check the car seat with my luggage because I had some lay overs in airports and I was traveling by myself. I wanted to have somewhere to put him to sleep and to give my arms a break. I took the car seat from gate to gate. They sky checked it for me, and it was waiting for me at each gate when I got off the plane. Also, there was 2 flights that were not full, so they brought it on for me and I was able to strap my son in and have a hands free flight.
This is what I would suggest for anyone.

Ok! Don’t worry it’s not as hard as it looks! I recently flew with my daughter to Dominican Republic when she was four months old and had her on my lap and it was perfectly fine.
TIPS: DO check the car seat in baggage. you do not want to have to lug that around plus a stroller plus a diaper bag plus a baby plus your purse/boarding pass/etc.
Do pack a very good diaper bag with fave toys, diapers, food, bottle, etc. You don’t want to miss something and not be able to get to it because you’re in the air.
The trick is to have your baby well fed before boarding or have a bottle ready for him so he can sleep for most of the flight.
Chuck your regular stroller and buy yourself one of those lightweight ones from walmart like this one:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5854453
you can find it for cheaper than that I bought mine for $ 12. trust me you will want to travel light and this gets the job done, your baby is old enough to sit and support himself in this stroller.
You will want to have a stroller because lugging your baby in your arms all over the airport and through check-in will get your arm tired. they let you use your stroller all the way to the entrance of the plane then they check it in luggage and return it to you once you get off. you don’t have to do a thing!
so you’ll just have your baby and your diaper bag. i would even just take your boarding passes/id etc in your diaper bag and that way eliminate the use of a purse.
hope this helps! don’t worry it’ll be great

Take your travel system up to the gate. If the flight is not full, they will let you take the car seat on board with you and you can put your baby on the seat next to you. They will check your stroller at the gate and have it waiting for you right when you get off the plane.
If you think it would be easier to travel with s small umbrella stroller, they sell them at walmart for $ 15.
